The rain jacket I never leave home without

One thing you gotta know about me is: I HATE getting my hair wet. I think I speak for most of mis hermanas when I say, we work too damn hard to get our hair looking just right to let some stupid rain screw it all up. And don’t nobody look cute with frizzy, matted-down curls… esp. when you started the day out with gorgeous straight hair. Needless to say, I don’t travel without a way to protect my mane from the elements. Like, ever! And that goes double for rainy destinations!

So, like 4 years ago I decided to splurge a bit on a really nice, but light, rain jacket. The Marido was adamant that the extra cost would be worth it, and he was not wrong. The quality makes all the difference in the long run. Anyway, I went with Columbia’s Pardon My Trench line ($45 bucks on Amazon) because reviews were like WOAH and because it was shaped like a trench with a nifty little belt and everything. I mean, QUE CUTE!

Cute doesn’t even cover it though, guys.  I mean, I look good in it, don’t get me wrong. But, it’s a magic coat. This thing does not let a single drop of water in! And that’s coming from a girl who once stood in an actual rainstorm at Stonehenge, trying to save her newly blown-out hair. It’s impenetrable. The thing is long too! It goes down past my thigh, almost to my knee. That’s some rain protection right there! Also, it zips and buttons all the way up to your friggin chin. That baby does NOT accidentally pop open in a storm yall, nuh uh. This’ll sound weird, but I also love how it doesn’t leave you all clammy and shit. This jacket breathes well. While also protecting you from fierce winds and the bite of cold weather.

Taking in the beautiful, but very rain Buachaille Etive Mor.

And my favorite thing, aside from the shape, is the hood. The shape of it is weird in that it protrudes a little further than you would think is necessary. But, for God’s sake, its NECESSARY! That little extra water-resistant fabric is the difference between a wet face and a dry face. That little flap has saved my look, my hair, and my LIFE many a times!

I told you, my rain jacket is my most essential travel must-have. I adore that thing. I have taken it everywhere from England to Scotland to the Pacific Northwest. I strongly suggest you get one like it. A girl can’t go traveling around the world without a way to protect her hair!

Con mucho carino,

Joana
